Has the world gone mad, there's a would be US President saying that immigrants in his country are killing and eating family pets, if I hadn't heard him saying it, I wouldn't have believed it.. while here in UK the Government seem hell bent on bringing older people to the edge, if not over it to utter poverty, cancelling the winter fuel allowance; hints that the Autumn budget will take away the reduced Council tax from single people. This means widows, widowers, as well as young people will be affected. But train drivers will be alright as their salaries of £65,000 is to be increased.
All these policies it seems is to plug the so called £22billion hole left by the previous government but £9.2billion of that shortage is what was given as the new pay deals by the Labour Govt.
As well as that, stopping the bus concessions, which is ridiculous as most bus journeys are taken by older people, so I can see bus companies going bankrupt. Why is there so much hate against older people? When a new Aldi store opened here in my own town, younger women were crowing that it was needed, as the one small Coop supermarket was too costly and only the 'rich' older people could afford to shop there!
I know from someone who lives in US that Obama's health care plan was not received happily and many people objected to poorer people being offered free health care. Kamala Harris has similar ideas. Well here in UK we are supposed to have free health care, however the present situation means there are many waiting for treatment, as the NHS is at the point of break down, too many ill people, not enough Drs in fact not enough of anything. Its all very well the newly elected Government blaming the previous government, but in their time we had something that hadn't been experienced before, a World Wide Pandemic. And when Labour were in government they closed down hospital wards, because there weren't enough nurses, but they could have made their Degrees free to encourage more to become nurses, so blame them.
They've argued that Drs have been give above inflation rises to bring them into line with other workers, what about Care Workers, shouldn't they be recognised and given more money? Why is it the lowest paid are always failed.
The rise in the OAP will mean some pensioners will be paying more tax and as for the argument for more pensioners to apply for additional benefits, it seems the forms have 295 questions! They don't make it easy. I can see a hike in council tax next!
I could go rambling on, abortion at 7, 8 or 9 months??? I don't know about being mad but to my way of thinking Mr Trump lacks intelligence......Windmills killing birds, telling the leaders of Ukraine and Russia to sit down and talk to come to a peaceable outcome? That world leaders look to him for leadership? Is he mad or what?
Or what about our PM and Chancellor of the Exchequer having a stop on any increase in their rents in number 10 and 11 Downing St... as well as the £30,000 allowed them to renovate!! They didn't tell that to people, did they?
So they think that, we the public are too stupid to realise that whatever or who ever is in power, they will dictate how we shall live and they know best! I could go rambling on but I don't want people to think I'm doolaaly!
I'm lost for words!

I sent an email to my local MP and the chancellor about the fuel payment. I know my one little letter will not do any good but if every pensioner did, then it is possible changes would happen. Regards Moira
I think you've got the gist of it there. Not doolally, just observant. Keep digging, it's a very deep rabbit hole.
There are questions about the 'Black Hole' that are not being answered, so I think there's some jiggery-pokery going on in the Labour government. They are unwilling to be specific about the amount.
Labour has not realised, perhaps, that OAPs (how I hate that expression) are a sizeable demographic and they need to keep them on side.
There is a mess in government here in Canada too. Sometime in the next year we will have an election. Nothing changes though. We too go from one calamity to another.
Chiming in here from the US: the poor DO receive free healthcare, most hospitals have a sliding pay scale, and those with low income get government coverage. It's when you are middle class it gets harder. But, my experience here in NY state is I have always been able to see a dr. immediately when needed, and receive excellent care. We have Canadian friends with "free" healthcare, and one with diabetes waited MONTHS to see a dr., and another needing essential cardiac surgery had several months of waiting, where here that would not happen. Sadly, late term abortions are a thing here, perfectly legal in NY state. Also some states have laws exempting them from trying to save a baby if happens to be still alive after an abortion procedure. It's sickening. You would think it never happen, but it does. Whether the cat eating is true or not, the crime has certainly risen to record levels with the influx of immigrants, they are not legally allowed to work, so what are they supposed to do? I think if we allow them to flood the border, we should at least let them get a legal job and do things properly. But no one asked me, ha. I sincerely hope funding isn't cut for heating this winter, it's cruel. Hugs from across the pond. Della
Well said all, also Robber Reeves has claimed £3700 through the MP's hesting allowance but has the gall to take it away from pensioners. She hasn't done anything to harm the MP's on their over inflated wage packet.
Also, when a family of 4 economic migrants get off a boat after crossing the English Channel and they are placed in a nice warm hotel room and given a full nice piping hot English breakfast each morning, they are also given another £46 per person per week, for their other meals. So nearly £200 per week, £800 every 4 weeks, and they can't give us £300 per year just for us to keep warm through the winter. It shows just who Robber Reeves and Two Tier Kier really care about

You have a lot to say, Chris, and say it well. Our wanna-be presidential candidate is an egotistical nut job. He horrified me.
The Healthcare issue seems pretty serious in the UK and Canada, with people waiting far too long for care. Here, there is Medicaid for low-income people, that covers everything. Larry also gets free health care through the Veterans Administration, and he pays a little to also have Medicare coverage. Since we still work part-time and have an income above what is considered poverty level, I pay for my health insurance and also for Medicare. Which means I have co-pays and deductibles to meet, even after paying out over $400 a month. Its not easy, but I am grateful to have what I have as many pay much more.
I hope your heating allowance will continue! What a thing to threaten people with.
Add the £11.6bn foreign aid for net zero (Millibrain) and that's the black hole sorted!
I believe the Government's finance are there for all to see and there was no surprise 'black hole'. It's just the recent spend, spend, spend Labour plus appeasing (buying) the unions (BMA, RMT...)
Who remembers the phrase 'tax until the pips squeak'? Healey. Then the money goes and we are off to the IMF :(
