I was the generation who walked to school in all weathers.
I was the generation who did my homework as quickly as poss. to play outside.
I was the generation who played hide and seek in the dark.
I was the generation who made mud pies and daisy chains and believed if you picked a dandelion, you wet your pants!
I was the generation who played kiss chase with the boys, although nobody got kissed, we just ran about screaming!
I was the generation who played marbles, and yoyos
I was the generation that loved one penny sweets and fizzy pop.
I was the generation that collected photos, cards and scrap books and had a stamp Album.
I was the generation who made paper toys with my own hands.
I was the generation who coloured in pictures, when it was too wet to play outside.
I was the generation who knocked for friends to come out to play and played outside all day.
I was the generation who played cowboys and Indians, Germans and the English and Robin Hood and Maid Marion.
I was the generation who rode my bike with friends for miles and miles.
I was the generation who went to sleep, after sneakily reading under the bedclothes with a torch.
I was the generation who did as I was told.. well maybe but not always... what did you do?

I’m of the same generation, all of those things are familiar to me. The penny sweets, fruit salad or black jacks which were my favourites. And being out all day with my friends on our bicycles, only going home for tea. Happy memories. We were so lucky to have been born then
Oh my…that was exactly me! Everything that you wrote, I did! I also used to tuck an iSpy book into my pocket and wander into the woods close by!
I loved my childhood and I feel sorry for all those children who are cooped up with phones, iPads etc all day! There is so much FOR FREE that you can do in the outside world! 😁
All those things. And in cold weather I got dressed inside the bed because it was too cold to stand in my bedroom and take off my pjs. And we had school dinners, meat&two veg most days. No pizzas or chicken nuggets, lots of lumpy mash and sinister gravy. And we avoided stepping on cracks in the pavement because the bears would come and eat us. And ate our crusts to get curly hair, and our cabbage to grow tall [I ate ALL mine, and I am still only 5 foot, with straight hair] And we Listened With Mother after lunch, and to Uncle Macs Childrens Favourites on a Saturday morning. ....happy days!
You are a bit older than me evidently, but I was born in 1952 and pretty much I'd say you're right on with everything I did as a child also. Plus I was a bit of a tomboy so that included going off into the woods by myself and looking for bugs and snakes and toads even though I was a girl. Too bad children don't get this opportunity today because they're stuck on the computer.
It was a great generation! We did much the same. I was born in 1960.
I was the generation who played outside all day, walked to school, the buses were non-existent where we lived, was made to do chores to earn pocket money. Wore mini skirts, teeny shorts with long boots. Went out in an evening, often coming home at 2/3 am and getting up for work at 7 am and not moaning about being tired (too much). Married young and were happy with what we had, pass downs and cast offs. On the whole I think we had a lovely life. Xx
I grew up in a little neighborhood in New York State, not the city. There were some empty lots here and there, one with a little creek running through, we played wilderness and prairie and exploring...we played whole neighborhood hide-and-seek, we drank out of the hose, rode our bikes all over. There were big games of kick ball and jump rope, and we never stayed in and watched television unless we were sick. We ice skated when the swamp froze, and sledded down the backyard hill of the house around the block. We climbed trees and built forts and were never bored. My grandkids come here to our big house in the country, and they love to go outside and play in the creek and the woods and climb trees and run wild...:)
Yep pretty much the same. I loved my scrap book, and when I got older poster of pop singers, lol
All of those, except riding a bike for miles. I have always been very good at falling off bikes though!
I enjoyed lots of those fun things too as a child.
Yes, much the same here too (born at the end of 1959). What Angela said above about getting dressed inside the bed brought back memories - we did the same! There was ice on the inside of our windows in the winter - we have it so easy nowadays.
Oh yes, reading under the bedclothes with a torch, happy memories.
All the best Jan
I am a lot of these too! This is a lovely piece of writing/poem!xxx
I was there too!
