I don't know about you, but spring can't come quick enough for me. We went out yesterday morning and at 4C it was cold, it wasn't raining but there was that 'air rain' as I call it. I took my new bright red umbrella, that Dh bought for my birthday, I haven't used it yet. I don't like going out in rain as it's horrible for my arthritis and also, when you've paid £27 for a blow dry hair appointment, you avoid getting it wet!
I love all spring flowers especially daffodils, they're so bright a colour and of course are the Emblem of Wales. I used to wear one as a teacher on St David's Day, over the years.
I've always grown them in my garden where ever I've lived. So I used to watch them in my garden willing them to flower before March 1st, St David's day.. but they never did until about 20 years ago, so I always had to buy some, to wear one to work! Now my garden has them flowering freely at the beginning of February, so you can't tell me there isn't Global warming.
There is 3.5 minutes of day light each day, that's nearly 25 mins each week... roll on spring I'm waiting for you!

The global warming in winter time has been so pronounced where I live for the last 4 years, that when this winter came and it has been bitter cold and is going to continue being bitter cold for the rest of the month, I don't know what to think about whether anymore. Our ground is frozen heart as a rock but surprisingly I did find teeny tiny daffodil leaves trying to peek through the Rock Solid ground. It gives me hope.
This winter seems particularly dismal to me. We've had very little sun and the daytime temperatures are no great improvement on night time. It's cold and damp.
So am I! And that light is so welcome!
Spring can't arrive soon enough. I can imagine that. It's funny how nature has its own schedule, isn't it? Your story about them never blooming before St. David's Day and now flowering in February is a perfect example of how things are changing.
Nothing is flowering here, it just keeps snowing! So, I'm happy to see your cheery daffodils!
We have got some Spring bulbs flowering down here, but it's still grey, dismal and cold....I've been saying recently that it feels like it's been that way for months and months!
I've always loved daffodils, too and grew them to pick in the spring. The CCC where I live now will have thousands of them in bloom probably in March. They are in a wooded area where it stays colder than in the sun shine.
It's been very grey and cold, so far this week, it would be lovely to see some sunshine.
Roll-on Spring.
All the best Jan
Daffs are so cheerful, we have quite a lot in our garden. Cold weather doesn't really bother me, i take each season as it comes, i dont like wishing time away as time goes fast enough as it is. I don't like rain whatever the season though.
I love Spring, but have to sheepishly admit to really enjoying this winter. It has been so long since we have had as many snows and I never tire of the beauty. It has been that damp-cold here too today, not pleasant, and so very muddy! We will have to re-seed our entire lawn, I am afraid, as with the drought and then all this snow and rain there is very little grass left. Thinking to just seed white clover instead of grass.
They are beautiful flowers. I hope spring comes early for you.
Lovely to see the Spring brightness of the daffodil.
