The Road to Rome

We have thoroughly enjoyed this programme. Eight well known personalities, all with differing faiths and beliefs set out together to cover the Italian section of the ancient 2000 km Via Francigena, which starts in Canterbury and ends in Rome. They have 15 days to complete the walk. They started in the alps just before the Swiss-Italian border,
Actors, Les Dennis, Lesley Joseph, professional dancer Brendan Cole, comedians Katy Brand, Stephen K Amos, Olympian long jumper champion, Greg Rutherford, Euro song winner, Dana and Tv Presenter, Mehreen Baig. They live as modern day pilgrims, staying in basic hostels, sharing dorms and walking a largely untrodden route, which is presently in the throes of revival.
Each person has their own story of why they're doing this.
Many tears are shed as they search for answers to the questions they have.
I think Lesley Joseph was a joy to watch 71 and without make up, talking about her big knickers to be comfortable walking! They all had some questions about their own beliefs and as they walked and talked took comfort from each other, and helped each other,  when the walking got too hard, with sore feet and blisters, they still carried on.
A really worth while programme to watch, beautiful scenery, stories of their lives and their need to make this journey.
We have loved it, makes a change to watch TV with a meaning behind it and enjoy it.

I think this was the second or third series of these pilgrimages - all have been so interesting - the people and the countryside

It sounds good, a change from the murder and mayhem, in real life and otherwise.

I love these pilgrimage series. The celebrities start out as people we have our own ideas about and then very quickly turn out to be so very different. It's nice to watch them gel together as a group too over the long days walking and really help each other out with emotional as well as physical problems.

Sounds like an interesting program. I don't think it's available to watch on our TV channels, here.
