Yesterday I had a flash back to when I was a young mum and we had first moved from here, my home town, to Billericay in Essex. Just some thing on Face Book triggered the memories, the awful loneliness and the cold house and the mile walk to town. I did walk all the way at least twice a week, to the bank and of course the library. We moved because my husband had got a job in an office in London. It was December 1968.
I had lived there a year before I made a friend, Den, and she is still my friend although she doesn't live there now and speaking to her on the phone, she is very confused, but still knows me, she is 90 years old now.
She stopped off at my house three afternoons on her way home from work and we had a cup of tea and chatted for a good hour. On her days when she wasn't working we still got together for a chat! Her two girls stayed with me, if they were off school, and she had my youngest son, when I had my driving lessons, so we had a good friendship and laughed a lot but also cried together. She was my main stay, when I was going through my divorce and it was she who found out about the college in Brentwood, that was offering Degree Courses. So it was she that gave me my escape route to be able to support myself and buy my own house.
So strange how she came into my mind, but her eldest daughter has accepted my as a friend on FB and as she has a very active FB page, I see my friend all the time.. there are some very good things on FB that I never thought existed! Do you have a FB account?

I don't have an account, but my husband does, mainly to keep in touch with family who live away.
I don't go on Facebook any more as I was getting too much junk.
I agree, a good friend to stand by you is such a blessing.
How wonderful to be able to reconnect like that and be able to be 'viewers' of each others lives. That's where Facebook is really good, and I use it mostly for staying connected to what my sons and their families are getting up to, and also my extended family.
The only things I don't like on Facebook at the moment is the sheer amount of adverts and fake news posts. Also AI is creeping in more and more, so I do try to be careful.
Hi Chris :) I found your blog via Sue's blog and have read a few of your posts. You don't mind if I follow, do you? :) I do have Facebook and have a love/hate relationship with it :) It does allow me to keep up with old friends and some relatives that I don't live near. I would say it's a mix of good and bad. My kids make fun of me because I'm always deactivating my account, but then I come back so I can see what my kids are doing :) hahaha I'm looking forward to reading more of your blog.
I agree about FB. It keeps you in touch with people who live far away and you learn a lot about their lives, and their travels. I see it as a positive thing.
I am on FB and have "found" several people I knew some time ago. It is nice to keep in touch with those who are far away.
What a good friend she was.
I do have a FB account and love that it lets me keep in touch with people from my past and those who live farther away. I don't like all the political stuff on there but keep it for the connections.
I've never done Facebook ... just blogging.
All the best Jan
I did have a Facebook account for decades, but closed it in April this year. I honestly haven't missed it.
You have a lovely blog. Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada ❤️ 😊 🇨🇦
Friends like that are like diamonds. I have a FB account just to catch up with friends and family. Don't like all the adds and rubbish on it.
Oh that's really nice.
I have a Facebook account. I don't post much on there, but my sister and I use the messenger part to chat. She's in England and I'm in the US. It's a good way to share photos and such as well
