I'm dreadful in supermarkets often drooling on the contents of other peoples trolleys. I whispered to Dh when seeing the contents of a trolley load totally different to our own..'I'll go home with them.' Yes, they had cakes and desserts, sausage rolls, white crusty loaves of bread, while we had fruit and yogurts.
But yesterday the man behind us in the queue, loaded up his items ready at the check out, and it included a huge packet of what looked like wood chippings. Of course I had to ask about it. 'Its like a muesli he said, but with larger chunks of oats, so they take a bit of chewing!'
So a healthy load of groceries and what did I read about today.. a longevity tip is to eat healthily.. and what is healthy?
An expert has said, foods that people ate 100 years ago,
Beans
Whole grains
Vegetables
So the foods that us oldies ate when we were young.
There's hope for me then??
But sometimes often I want that greasy Chinese meal or that sweet cake and ice cream, rather than the healthy foods.
What about you?

I think we eat a lot different to when we were younger, there are so many fast food options and everywhere you go you can pick up something to eat, we didn't have that years ago.
Healthy eating.... I don't go down the chip and lolly aisle at the supermarket. If they tax smokes and hide them behind the counter they should do the same with lollywater etc, just as much a health hazard. I get a pizza now and then and have been known to devour a family size block of dark chocolate all at once.
I think my mother used a lot of greasy Foods when I was young. That is one thing I have never done in my life of cooking is do a lot of frying of foods. I do like my vegetables first and then beans and last of all a little meat or a lot of fish.
I like to see what other people are buying and occasionally I have cart envy. I have a hard time resisting junk food if I go to the store hungry.
I do try to eat as healthily and as simply as I can, but every now and then I do succumb to a Pot Noodle. The best thing to keep in my mind when I'm shopping is 'would my granny recognise this', my Nana would most definitely be horrified by the array of multi-coloured packets and boxes available in today's supermarkets, so I am getting better at ignoring them.
But would my gran recognise rice except in a pudding? or pasta (other than macaroni cheese)? Her carbs were bread, potatoes and oats. And kiwifruit, avocados , blueberries and mangoes would have been outside her experience too. Not all the foods we now eat are UPF "baddies" and I am grateful for the variety of world cuisine available to us.
I don't suffer from trolley envy - I don't go shopping! 😂🤣
I am always fascinated by trolleys that contain almost nothing except wines and spirits. Are the people pushing them about to have a huge celebration or is that just their weekly/monthly intake?!
I do my best to eat healthily ... but it can be quite interesting to see what others have in their trolleys/basket.
All the best Jan
I try to eat healthy but don't eliminate any food group. My motto is eat all things in moderation. I've been doing that for many a year and I'm in pretty good shape for 74. :).
