❄️A Simple Life?

When I should be doing hundreds of things, I sometimes give in and sit down and watch this woman, so relaxing and such a simple life.
When did life get so complicated. Don't get me wrong I don't want to go back to the forties, fifties, which was when I grew up.....pre-central heating? No thank you.. But I can remember being taken to the Dr,  where we all sat in an outer room, no receptionist, no phones and in silence. Every now and then the Dr would pop his head out of a door way, shout next and some one went into his room. Every body knew who's turn it was and might even had known what the problem was too!!
Today there is a long pre-amble to get to see a Dr,  although our surgery has got a new phone system, where you get through more or less straight away and appointments are that day!

Do I want to make Peach juice out in the open with the sound of chickens and the old man's wheel barrow going round the garden doing the odd jobs??  He always knows when to stop to help when needed to lift the heavy pan, does she shout for him?  I wonder, did she always have those big pans, bowls and flat cooking trays, or were they bought for the videos, who is filming it all.. so is it a professional job

Thinking that spoils it for me. I want it to be just the old woman and old man going about their lives simply. There are other videos of her cooking other foods and then they sit together at a little table, usually covered by a check patterned cloth and eat together.

Oh, to live in 'happy ever after' land! But you're right... we can enjoy the fantasy so long as we remember it is just that - a dream!

Maybe they set up a video camera on a tripod to record it all?

It is interesting to have a glimpse of other people's lives and there's nothing wrong with watching videos for a while.

It looks simple, but having lived, and still living, a similar life, I can tell you it is a lot of work, and not so simple as it seems. I am fortunate to have a gas stove instead of working outside like that, although her process is similar to our apple butter making,, which is done outside.. That perfect fruit is the result of a lot of care, struggles with insects, weather, disease, etc. And of course the video has reduced the amount of time all her work takes. As for the big pans, I am sure she owned them. I have so many big pots that we have a whole cabinet just for them!

I think I try to simplify things as much as I can - which isn't the same thing. I just do what I can and remember that if I want to live in the now (which I do), I have to accept that things are different and simple now is not the same as simple last year, last decade, last century.

I would love a couple chickens in our garden, sadly two neighbours feed and encourage foxes in their gardens, so not a good idea.

You'd think with all the technology we now have our lives would be simpler but they're not!
I try to take time out each day and enjoy something simple like a nice cup of tea and reading some pages of a favourite book.

All the best Jan

I too occasionally watch those Youtube videos and find them strangely relaxing - best not to think too much about who is doing the filming etc, Just enjoy
