I have been having eye problems for a few months. I can't see the print in some books, so buy the kindle version. I got some reading glasses two years ago, instead of varilux lenses and have been managing.. So yesterday, because the nose pad had broken on my reading glasses, I had to visit the opticians.
Because I am boycotting shops with a step, there is only one optician I can visit. Repairing the nose pad was done there and then and they could test my eyes within 10 mins.
However it was up a few steps, I said that's ok. But when I came to the steps, the hand rail was on the right side! (my broken arm side.) I thought it would be ok, but it was difficult, they were very steep. I used both hands to hold the rail but honestly they were higher than usual steps, and then there was a step and no hand rail.. the optician let me hold his arm and I struggled to get up it!
Test was so, so, my eyes are very different from my last test, which I knew and my cataract in my right eye has grown.. not too bad as I was first told I had them in 2005. My Macular degeneration is no worse and he suggested, it would have been slowed down by the eye vitamins, MacuShield, that I take.. These were advised by an Ophthalmologist in 2014, so we were both pleased to hear that, because they're quite pricy!
So I was ok about the test, I don't know why I kept putting it off, just couldn't fit it in with everything else I do.
But, then there were the steps to go down, I froze. Going down steps fill me with dread and I started to panic, the optician got Dh, I was a weepy and shaking. It was a slow process, the steps were very, very steep, I couldn't have got down without Dh's help! I'm not doing those again!!
I have an appointment to gage how bad the cataract is next week, with a view to getting it sorted.
I may go privately as my cousin once said. there's no pockets in a shroud!
I've chosen red framed glasses!

That's disappointing about the steps. I wonder if you are eligible for a home visit from the opticians? I have free home visits and am very satisfied with the thoroughness of the optician.
Red frames are bright and cheery! 👓
Kirsten's suggestion is a very good one.
Red frames! What fun!
How nice to go with red frames. Sorry to read about your stairway issues. How daunting that sounds. DL
I'm sorry about the steps, seems like a bad plan in an office like that.
I think the glasses will look great on you though!
Bright red frames are very cheering. Thank you for the recommendation for the Macushield. I have been diagnosed with early stage MD, wearing my sunglasses when I'm supposed too, so am very willing to try anything to help. Xx
It seems wrong that an Opticians does not have better access. Surely, many of the customers have visual and physical difficulties.
So sorry you had to deal with those steps. I think you're red frames will look great.
Nothing wrong with red framed glasses. My sun pair are bronze and pink. My regular wear are pale blue on the top. All glass around the rest of lense. You must show them to us.
Red frames! I bet they look fantastic on you. What fun.
So sorry about those steps. One of my granddaughters once lived in a house with a few steep entry steps, and no handrail. It was a real challenge to get inside her house. I was glad when she moved.
I'm sorry about the steps and disappointing the opticians couldn't make access easier.
I do wonder if you may be eligible for a home visit from the opticians, it may be worthwhile making enquiries.
However, I'm pleased you've chosen your new frames.
All the best Jan
Thanks for the dinner suggestion for hot weather. I made chicken salad and we had it with lettuce from the garden, brie cheese, crackers and peaches.
Your new red frames will be fabulous. Just a shame that the access to the opticians was not great and caused you more worry. I'm having my eye test tomorrow . I know I need a new prescription and want new frames this time round too.
