SOS

There has been and still is an on going fight between the County Council and Porthcawl about houses and flats being build on land right by the Sandy beach area. SOS, Save our Seaside speaks out for the town, volunteers, towns people who care and are concerned as to what will happen.

So the FB pages always have photographs of the sea, the beaches, and the pier. It is all beautiful and the worries are that too many houses and tall flats will spoil the town. Various plans have  been drawn up. but all have had too many houses or not enough recreation areas. The fairground has gone, and is a prominent site, planned for 4 story flats. If built they would over look this view, lucky people!
But we the towns people will keep fighting for a development suited to the town and its beautiful beaches.

Once they let the development happen, you can never get that beautiful scenery back.

That is beautiful. The people do well to protect it as much as they can!

A good fight to have. Building directly by the beach is just asking for erosion and big storms to wash out the houses.

Similar issues crop up here as well. I think development should be carefully calibrated and done keeping in mind environmental and ecological concerns.

Developers are greedy. What sense does it make to build so close to the sea? Have they not heard of erosion and flooding?

I think many areas within the UK are under pressure to build more homes.
The decision to where they are/will be built is never an easy one.

All the best Jan

What a shame it would be to build the houses there.

In Florida, the coastline is so built up now you can only watch rare glimpses of the ocean, so sad. I remember when I first visited there, and we drove up the A1A, along the coast. It was so beautiful! But that was 50 some years ago. I hope this does not happen to your community.
