More Money than Sense!

'More money than sense,' was one of the sayings my Aunt that brought me up often said! And the other night I heard her saying just that to me.

This is our present book club read, I decided to down load a sample onto my kindle to see if I liked it. I didn't read the previous month's book, called 'The Durrells in Corfu', I didn't take to the a TV series and I didn't like the book either, so for once didn't read book club choice.

So I thought I'd check this new book on my kindle ..it was reading nicely and decided I'd read the book in the morning and I settled down to sleep and was asleep in no time.  However, at just after 3:00 am, I was in the wide awake club, so picked up my kindle to read and carried on reading the Sample... then I got to the end of it, and it was so easy to press 'buy this book' from my comfy warm bed.  And yes that's when I heard my Aunty Glad's voice saying...more money than sense! I am enjoying the book!

Yes, those wise words from our elders echo in our heads at times don't they. Sometimes it's good to override them, just to let them know who's boss ... I think the wee small hours of the morning are just one of those times. I hope you continue to enjoy your book. xx

I loved that book! And I've enjoyed other books by her. I often download a sample of a book to see if I'm going to want to read it.

I remember reading Gerald Durrell's My Family and Other Animals. I thought it was hilarious but I was a child. Perhaps that's the market he was aiming for.

Hello Chris,
it is a wonderful feeling when a book lures one in and envelopes one into a new world of the imagination. We usually try the first page of a novel...if we are captured by that, then it is generally a good read.

often find the book is much better than the tv/film adaptation so rarely watch after…..not sure if I’ve ever watched something then read the book. That being said if I hadn’t enjoyed enjoyed it I doubt I’d want to read it so can see where you’re coming from with the Durrell book
I’m keeping a note of The Keeper of Lost Things for next year

Isn’t it amazing how those sayings of our youth stay with us. Your aunt is still with you…

Those voices from the past do come back into mind at the oddest times. The book sounds like a good one. I'll see if I can order it from the library.

I didn't read the last book from my book and pudding bookclub, just wasn't something I enjoyed. This one looks interesting, I'll have a look out for it.
