Poppies in the Tower of London

We were in London yesterday evening so decided we would go to see the poopies.
It was raining and although we got wet, it was worth it.
Of course it was dark but the poppies were lit and with the rain they were shiny.

It was an amazing sight.. I thought of my grandmother's brother Will.

Private William E Harris, 21691, in the Welsh Regiment, 2nd battalion..
His death was recorded as 28:10:1918.
He had gone all the way through the war and was killed in Flander's Field.
His photo in uniform was always hung in the living room, and my grand mother always shed a tear at this time and probably a lot more at other times too when she remembered him.
Sad times for a lot of people.
Dh and I always go to our town War Memorial on the 11th November.
There usually is about 20 people there.

Thank you for sharing the story of your great-uncle. I would have loved to see the poppies but we are just too far away from London...maybe we'll catch them once they start travelling around the UK? I enjoyed reading about your visit anyway. We attended mass this morning when the names of the war dead from our parish were read out as they are every year. It was well attended.

There has been a lot of news about those poppies even here in New Zealand. I'd love to have seen them in person - what a wonderful sight.

Thank you for sharing your family story. There are so many, many beautiful young men who went and didn't come back. I love those beautiful memorial poppies. And I remember reading the beautiful poem "In Flanders Field" when I was young and in school.

It's breathtaking isn't it Chris. We saw it in June when the moat was half full, tomorrow Dusty and I are going to London and we'll be visiting the Tower

I was so hoping to see some photos of the beautiful poppies I had seen briefly on the news. What a gorgeous memorial to those who lost their lives during the war. May their memories live on.
Blessings,
Aimee
