We had the Nationwide alert this evening on our phones and the message came through all in Welsh!! Well, yes we're attempting to learn Welsh, but we're only just starting our 3rd year.. Oh heck what does it flipping well mean??
We recognised one of the leading words, 'gan' It's a fire alert I said, then reading through we recognised the names of towns.. I quickly switched on my laptop and searched for 'Alert' and there it was AB advising the dangers of open fires etc and then again the Alert came through this time in English!! Phew!
I can well understand why people in WW2 felt panicky when the Sirens sounded warning about air raids.
So our new Prime Minister, Andy Burham has spoken to the Nation!
Gosh that sound did make us feel panicky.

It really made me jump before when we’ve had them we’ve had a warning first as they were testing the system. Heather
I was just leaving my sisters when the alert came through, neither of us knew what it was until much later, lol. We have had wild fires in our town, it's been all over the news (Stourbridge in the West Midlands), strange but the alert didn't sound then
I was actually in a restaurant with family when suddenly everyone's phones staring sounding! The siren sound was certainly loud and it caused confusion at first and perhaps panic for some!
However, the fires here in the UK are bad and we all need to take care.

We were sitting on a village green eating pizza with the family. As were a dozen or so other families [local artisanal pizza place does this on Friday nights, it's a popular thing] So dozens of phones went off... Granddaughter (10) was scared it meant there was a fire nearby., but we were able to reassure her. I think it was a good thing to remind us to stay alert. Appropriate too that in Wales,the first alert was in Welsh. Keep safe, friends 🔥 🔥 🔥
My husband's phone sounded but mine didn't. Nor did the mobile that we use as a house phone now that our landline has gone. Very strange.
Fires are so scary and they seem to getting more widespread, world wide and more often.
Good to know the alert system is working there.
Oh dear, tgat would have been scary. We get these alerts often over the radio for flooding, ice storms, high winds, etc, but i can imagine how confusing it would be if they were in another language.
I think it is a brilliant system. SO many people were moaning about this not being a 'national problem' deserving of using this alert system. With so many fires raging and so many homes and livelihoods being lost I think it is definitely worthy of this alert. Even if most of us did jump out of our skins!!
Only our daughter's phone sounded the alert and fortunately she lives with us at the moment. She was able to check our phones and found out the setting that should have been on. It made us jump but I'm glad we got the advice.
