Soaps!!

It seems channel 4 is bringing back 'Brookside'!! A TV soap that ran from 1982 to 2003. It will just be a one off follow up show.

I used to watch the Saturday omnibus. On Saturdays I did my washing, cleaning, shopping and my weekly visit to the library, but at 5 to 5 I was sat down with a drink and a packet of crisps for Brookside!
It was the only regular TV I watched, and I had been introduced to it by my youngest son!

It was the first show to have a pre-water shed lesbian kiss, the murder of a husband and the body hidden under the patio by the wife and daughter; the shocking news of the one couple being siblings, drugs and couples swapping partners were some of the story lines... So just the every day stories in 'soap life'  I missed it when it finished and I never took to Holly Oaks, but then made time in my evenings twice a week to watch 'Eastenders' which these days Dh watches with me!

Such fun I had a weekends when I worked!

Years ago when we lived in Yorkshire I was hooked on Emmerdale... they always had enough of a cliffhanger that I NEEDED to see the next episode. Luckily our tv died and we couldn't afford to replace it or I'd be watching it still!

Memories of Brookside. The Saturday omnibus was my favourite viewing experience. After being out at work all week I always managed to get home on Saturday morning and sit in front of the box at 5pm.

Me too. It was my time to watch the Saturday Omnibus alone with a drink and crisps! Exactly. It was more than a soap, it was intelligent, clever, drama with brilliant actors.

I imagine it will be great to see the characters again, even for one episode.

Over here I used to watch Days of Our Lives for decades. Then they put it on
an extra pay cable station so I had to quit. I miss the soap.

I think I caught it every now and then but I'm not a big soaps fan. I did watch Coronation Street for a time, but then it started to loose it's appeal. Never took to Eastenders, my two eldest daughters did but it was banned on the main TV as neither me or my husband liked it so they had to watch it in their room, lol

Seeing HappyK mention Crossroads reminded me I used to watch it :)
