Happiness?

A survey of 2000 people reported that the happiest every day sights included a rainbow after the rain,  a baby's smile and a clear night sky full of stars. Just some of the things that gave them that happy feeling, while 28% said they'd crack a smile at a dog wagging its tail excitedly. Others said, that seeing an older couple walking hand in hand gave them a warm feeling too.

What does gives us that burst of a warm feeling and makes our hearts skip a beat?  I get that squishy feeling seeing baby animals, a soft warm plump little belly of a puppy stretched out on a blanket, a line of ducklings waddling behind  their mum, the soft nose of a kitten rubbing your face saying hello, I love those.

There are so many things that cause us humans to have a happy smile; sun shiny days, cherry blossom in full bloom, waves lapping gently on the shore, the first sun's rays in an early morning, those early spring flowers,  foot prints in fresh snow, a toddlers' giggle, a child's drawing, a window with twinkling lights on a dark night, a fluffy clean towel warm from the drier, the scent of freshly baked bread and the smell of coffee. These are just a few, I could include that letter or email you've been waiting for, the phone call and that unexpected but wanted visitor, they give me a joy I can't describe.

So what are yours, more I'm sure and just as joyous?

There are so many, but here's a few: a phone call from one of my granddaughters, a "thinking of you" card in the mailbox, seeing someone make the choice to follow Jesus, a baby taking their first, a day spent with dear friends, stepping on the scale with a positive result and how excited my dog is to see me when I come home

For me its the call of Nana from our youngest grandchildren when they first see me.

A thoughtful gift accompanied by a nicely worded card. Nothing is better.

Additionally the smell of rain on woodchips and feeling eveything refreshed after months of dryness and dust.

I have never relied on other people for my happiness. I look inside myself for that. For me it's completing a job well done. Getting to the end of an art project. Finding my way from one end of the country to the other, a long arduous journey, and delivering my load. Navigating my way through a particularly complicated relationship and extrapolating myself from the situation, to come out the other side knowing I was right. Looking at a clean and tidy grass verge, knowing that no one else has to look at the ugly litter that I have spent a couple of hours picking up.

So many good things have been mentioned. Let me add, the first flowers of spring.

I love the feel of the sun on my face on a cold winter’s day. Individual time with each of the grandkids is such joy too!

The smell of newly-cut grass, the earth after rain, geese flying overhead, apricot blossom, a warm cat on my lap, a dog's nose pushing against me . . .

So many things contribute to my feelings of happiness - hearing my grandchildren call out "Nana," walking with my husband, gardening, warm sunshine on my back, gummy baby smiles, the daffodils outside my window just now - the list is endless! What a wonderful world we live in.

The smell of a newborn's head, a great cup of coffee, lilacs in the spring!

Watching the birds come to my backyard feeder and my morning walk
My deep down joy and peace though comes from Jesus who gives me joy and peace in any circumstance. :)

My number one has to be my granddaughter. We live so far away but it always makes me smile when she wants to call and talk to me.

Babies. Babies of all kinds just make me smile. Also the first flowers in spring, and the steam off my morning cup of tea.

I love the smell of fesh washing after it has been on the line, the frogs returning to our pond, spending time with family. All of these and more give me joy and make me smile. I have so many other blessings which I try to be thankful for each day and make me smile.
