Sun rise yesterday morning (Taken by a FB follower) And it was a beautiful sun shiny day..We went into town after lunch and it was crowded, so was the promenade.
And it's still winter!
Although March 1st is heralded as the start of Spring, it was only 8.6 C and felt it too!
It is St David's Day the patron saint of Wales today. I used to be dressed as a Welsh girl, with the big hat, when I was little. We always had the afternoon off school on a school day, which was nice.
It seems it was an extension of the 1800's riding high hat and has become synonymous with the Welsh Costume. It was promoted by Lady LLanover, born 1803, died 1886 who wanted to ensure that the Welsh dress and culture was kept.
It was a glorious sunny day, roll on Summer!

Pity it's not you in the photo Chris! March is the official start of autumn though it's not like autumn yet. When daylight saving ends in the east you can feel the weather changing. The hot bits of Aus don't have daylight saving. The cows don't know what's going on and the extra sunlight fades the curtains .... some people believed this!
We're still having bitter cold today and tomorrow. Our official first day of spring is not until March 20th and it's probably a good thing the calendar date is that late after this winter. I love the picture of the little girl to see how you would have been dressed.
We had a beautiful day yesterday, too. It was sunny and in the 60s F (16 C). However, we're back to frost on the ground this morning.
The costume was fun to see.
I think it's lovely that the Welsh have a traditional costume, as dot the Scots and the Irish. I wish the English had one, too.
Happy St. David’s Day!
Happy St David's Day . . . enjoy the month ahead.
All the best Jan
It's the beginning of autumn here and a cool 9 degrees so I sympathize with your cool temperature. But what a glorious picture. Love the wee girl as well.
That was a nice tradition. Shame you dont have a photo of you dressed up.
What a great memory with the hat and costume! It was very chilly here today, but I have hopes Spring will arrive in due time.
I hope you enjoyed St Davids day, Chris. Lovely to see the little girl in Welsh traditional dress.
Hope March brings much more sunshine and dry weather so we can get outside more. Have a good week.
