Interesting Books V Kindles?

I've only ever had one nasty comment, anonymous of course. Shame, otherwise I'd have visited their blog and been 'sweet! And I do mean kind and generous with my reply.
I love to read what other people write and the comments and I try to be careful not to say something that could cause hurt, when I write.

So I'm not fazed by comments that damn kindles and declare they're not as good as holding a real book. There are some aspects , which can be difficult to do with a kindle, until you really get to know how to use their idiosyncrasies.

I read real books, I like the look of them, the feel of them and the smell of a new book, however kindles have their uses too.
I have a Paperwhite kindle, its my second kindle so I've had a kindle since they were first came on the scene in 2007. I took it on our second visit to Australia  in 2008.
It is very convenient to read in bed as its back lit, so when I'm awake at three in the morning, as I often am, I can read without my bedside light and not disturb my husband. (Actually it wouldn't bother him if I did switch on my light) And just one aspect that I need, is  that I can enlarge the font. Our book group's book a month ago had faint small print.. so I bought a kindle copy for ease to read. A while ago I wrote about things I hated about books and size and depth of print being faint and small was just one of them.
So please don't knock kindles, because there are those of us who rely on the convenience and ease of using them. Having a case like this one pictured here, which is mine, makes it more like a book.
I love my kindle! What do you think?

I love books and reading and read plenty of paper books and on kindle. Enlarging the font for kindle is a nice feature. I put the kindle reader on a holder on my stationary bike and can easily read while exercising. Multi tasking.

I like kindle fot the same reason as you, as well as paper books. I also like reading on my tablet as I can enlarge pictures and maps. I've got the kindle app on my phone as well!

I bought a kindle to take on holiday a few years ago but didn't take to it. So it has joined my white elephant pile. The op shops take cameras, vinyl and other retro goods but they don't want electŕonics.

I have never used one, but I think that they have some really useful features.

I do love a book, for all the reasons you mentioned but I do have a kindle too, although I don't use it often. It's good to have different options, reading is reading whatever format you use

Totally agree, Chris. I had to download last month’s readers’ group book as it was over 500 pages and very small writing! Catriona

I occasionally will read a book electronically when it's the only way I can get it or when traveling. I still prefer a paper book, but that may be that I haven't used the apps enough to get used to them. My husband reads a lot on his phone. That just seems too small for me.

I like real books and electronic readers. They both have advantages and disadvantages. The main grouse I have with e-readers is the inability to refer back easily. I have Kindle on my iPhone as well as Audible.

I enjoy both books and kindle/tablet for reading. Larger print books from the library, if they have a smaller print I look for them on the Cloud library e-books and read on my tablet or I buy some books for my Kindle when they are on offer. Best of all worlds:)

I grew up loving books but now, between arthritis in both hands and difficulty reading small print, I truly love my Kindle Paperwhite. I can load it up with 4-5 books when traveling. I definitely miss the gestalt of actual books, with their careful attention to what font is used, for example, but I am delighted that the Kindle exists to allow me to continue reading. I do wish someone would invent a great competitive product so I could avoid purchasing from Dr Evil Bezos, but it is what it is.

I use them both. I like a real book, but the kindle is so convenient and saves money! I usually read from my Kindle.
Also, anyone who gets upset enough about a Kindle to leave a nasty comment has issues!

I have four standing bookshelves full of books. I love reading. And since I am almost housebound these days I love my kindle as I read quite a bit. The kindle saves me so much space! I also pay monthly for kindle unlimited as I can then "borrow" the book then send it back (add up how much you spend on your kindle books each month--you'll be shocked as I was). I've tried goodreads but the amazon selection seems much better (and it's what I'm used to).

I've not tried a kindle but know they are popular with many.

All the best Jan

I don't have a Kindle but I am open to the idea! It really does bother me when someone leaves a nasty or snarky comment. I mean, if you can't say something nice, say nothing. Hope you are doing well these days!

I had one but rarely used it. Lately, however, I have been listening to books on Spotify. I used to listen to audiobooks all the time when commuting, and now I find i enjoy them while I am working around the house. So not quite the same as a kindle, but still a different way of enjoying a book that some might consider not really reading! I say whatever works for you, do it!

I love books, but have a Kobo (Canadian version) that I use when we travel. It is so convenient as I read quickly and always had a hard time packing enough books to last for a couple of weeks.
As long as people are reading, the format doesn't matter!

I'm more of a paper book person but I wouldn't say no to a kindle type devise either.
