When I was 15 a girl in my class was involved in a car accident. She wasn't killed, but she did have a serious head injury, that meant she had to have major brain surgery. When she was allowed home, two of us went to visit her.. she was very pale and she had lost the vision in one eye.
We didn't know what to say to her, so we read Keats' poems with her and this from the Bible, because we thought it was beautiful language. We did have such a romantic view of life.. Something happened yesterday and these words came to me and I remembered Judy. She didn't come back to school that summer and her grave is in Newton Church grave yard.
I go there sometimes with a flower, to remember that girl who read Keats' poems with Susan and I..

A very touching story. I think reading from Keats and the Bible is a lovely thing to have done with your friend. It's hard to find the words sometimes.
I think it was special you went and read with her, and that you still remember her!
What a remembrance that keeps Judy alive in your memory.
That is a sweet story, and so nice to know that your friend is still remembered. I was about the same age when a girl in my class became very ill with kidney disease. She came back to school for a while, but was clearly ill, and died soon after.
I agree with Lorrie. So often a carefully chosen word of Scripture can bring great comfort. I have often sat at bedsides, and read the 23rd psalm to people.
Lovely that you went to visit her. I am sure she was so grateful. Losing a friend or classmate at that age is difficult. I am glad you remember her in your thoughts.
A story that touched me today. Reading is a lovely idea.
Lovely post Chris.
Such a sweet remembrance.
All the best Jan
