You have to laugh!

It was -1C when we were getting in the car to go to SW yesterday morning, although I didn't feel cold as I was wearing winter weight clothes, instead of my thin cotton dress.. I was expecting the scales to show a gain with the extra weight from my clothes, but no, I maintained my weight. I was very pleased, as I knew my extra clothes weighed 1.5lbs, yes I had weighed them! So now a new week and a downward trend to get below a certain weight before the big 'day.

And this is so laughable I had to write about it. It seems that in an area in UK, a council has asked gardeners, who use the garden refuse bins, to place them in a sunny spot in this cold weather, because the bins are freezing to the ground and the operatives are unable to lift them to empty then! Would you believe it?? It was even suggested to put them in a shed, till it was close to collection time to keep them warm! We don't know what time our garden waste is emptied as it varies from fortnight to fortnight, we actually pay £45 for 20 weeks and there's no room in our shed, is there room in yours?

Laugh and keep laughing, it will keep us warm!

If you put 2 sticks on the ground , parralel to each other and stand the bin on it, that should stop it freezing to the ground.

I expect a lot of us can remember the days when we had metal bins and that the binmen would walk to wherever the bins were on your property and carry them to the dustcart, empty them by hand (no fancy lifting gear) and then carry them back to where they came from. Admittedly households had a lot less rubbish then, but some of those old guys would be splitting their sides laughing at the thought of their successors being unable to cope with a bit of ice.

You pay for the bin to be emptied..? It doesn't come out of the council rates, I'm flabbergasted.

Good news on maintaining your weight. I'm sure you're glad that was Christmas coming. And I've never heard about keeping a trash bin inside so it stays warm. When you don't know what time they're coming that would be no fun to jump out a bit at 2:00 in the morning and run out to get a can.

I checked it out, organic garden waste is included in your rates unless you have extra stuff. And verge collections are also 'free'. We haven't got to -1 yet brrr, but a cool change to 21c tomorrow is welcome. The weather is very variable this time of year. Keep warm over there!

No room in the shed here! Lol.

No room here for a garden bin, so it gets put into garden rubbish sacks, then we take to our local tip (7 miles away), but do bring the sacks back to re-use. Fine whilst we can still drive and are mobile. Xx

Our bins are stored under a small roof and wheeled out on collection day. Fortunately, it's very regular and if one forgets, the sight of all the neighbours' bins reminds us. The fee is included in our municipal taxes.

Yes and £45 is a bargain. Here in Market Harborough District have to pay £61 for 18 weeks.

We don't have trash or garden waste pick up where I live. We take trash to the dump and live in the woods so we don't. have garden waste!

Well done with your weight, Chris.
Your bin story did make me chuckle. 😊Fortunately our bins are in a store at the front of the house.
