It was ok my knickers were clean!

And I am very thankful!
Although we have our groceries delivered  each week, we also pop to Tesco's to take our soft plastic to the recycle bin there. about twice a month and top up with fruit, or something we forgot to include on our order.
Usually on a Monday afternoon as its quiet then. So we set off with the intention of me buying a new phone and getting some salad bits last Monday.

We thought phones were upstairs, so proceeded to the Travellator.  I stepped on and then I don't know what happened, it was all so quick. I was falling backwards, my screaming could be heard for miles I'm sure. I hung on to the rail as I went down and the Travellator stopped. Dh was supporting my back to stop my head hitting the surface.. then and suddenly I was surrounded by Tesco staff.

Everybody was very concerned and gave me time to get myself together. The First Aider was holding my hand and said he knew how to get me up..When I was calm, I managed to turn myself around so I was facing down and with a towel folded into a strip shape, it was wedged under my 'bum' and two strong men had me on my feet in no time.  Thank goodness!  And I held onto the man infront of me.

I was wheel chaired to the café and had a cup of tea, giving me time to recover. I didn't hurt myself falling, but I did bruise my bum turning around on the hard metal surface of the Travellator.. and it is still very tender to sit. But I am thankful that, that's all.
And the silly thing is, there is a customer lift and the phone shop is downstairs just inside the main entrance, we had never noticed
Dh was very concerned and kept asking was I really unhurt.
And I, between saying how stupid I felt, I was ok, because I had on clean knickers!!

  4. I am glad you well looked after, and hope there isn't too much stiffness and bruising. At last your granny's wise advice tegarding underwear has been justified.

  5. What a frightening thing to happen. You must be so glad that there were well trained staff to hand and that you listened to your Mum on the knicker front! I hope you have a less eventful day today.

  7. Damaged dignity hurts more than the bruises sometimes. Good to have someone there to catch you.

  8. Oh what a bad situation you found yourself in. That would have been a split second of total panic for you and your husband. Glad to know that all is well except for when you sit.

  9. Oh gosh, what an awful shock that must have been. I'm glad you are not too seriously hurt. Our Mums really did drum it into us to wear clean knickers didn't they.

  10. From the time I was little, I always had fresh clean panties (knickers)on every day so I could never understand why mothers said that. I don't remember my mother saying that, but maybe she did. It was a long long time ago.

  11. I am glad you were not hurt. My experience on one of those things was not good, to say the least. I am an 83 year old woman, on vacation by myself with a group In Stockholm, coming up from the subway, I fell backwards. In hospital for more than two weeks, fractured neck, hairline fractures in my skull, blood clot in head and right side of my face paralyzed for a short while. DD1 flew to Stockholm from Canada, to accompany me home per Dr's orders. Wore a neck brace for 10 weeks, therapy and now a year later I am okay, Unfortunately, as a result I have lost of sense of smell and some taste. Thankful.

  17. Oh Chris, I'm so glad you are ok apart from the sore bum! That must have been quite a scare for both you and hubby. Just reading back on your posts while I have been away. Lovely photo of the four friends sharing the bench on the sea front. I hope they had a fun time together. I hear you with the getting around to doing those little jobs. It's good to get a few of them done isn't it. As for tv soaps, we don't watch any here but I did watch Eastenders when it first started. Finally very very late I know but I'm sensing you belated Happy Anniversary wishes.
    Have a good weekend x
