My Friday started badly, I've had a horrible weight gain, how??
Last weekend we really pushed the boat out, extra treats on the Friday after leaving the SW group with a minimum gain, which I was ok about. Then I had a cheese toasty and chocolate tiffin at our favourite coffee shop, why? Well, we had acquired some free coffee points so had to use them!
And Dh suggested rib of beef for Sunday dinner, which we had with
all the trimmings which included several Yorkshire puds and Monday we had ice cream plus, plus, well it was Bank Holiday|! So easy to gain and so so difficult to get it off..so this extra weight gain is the shock I needed. The rainy days haven't helped as we only went walking one afternoon.I know other women my age who are over weight too and think trying to lose weight at our age is silly and you should enjoy all treats at our age.. do you agree with them or do you think at any age you should attempt to lose weight?

I don't think it's the number is as much as what you're eating. If you're eating a reasonably nutritious diet, then the number shouldn't matter so much. However, for me there is a direct correlation between eating badly and weight gain. I guess your doctor should help you decide what's best for your health.
It's a good idea to maintain a healthy weight, but not to get too hooked up on the idea of losing a set amount. Basically, do what pleases you, not someone else. My mother-in-law was 'on a diet' all her life and was always telling us that she'd lost or gained two or three pounds. It ruled her life.
The best thing I have found after years and years of time and money wasted with WW and SW is the No S plan (can be found online). Basically no, 'Sugar', no 'Seconds', no 'Snacks' except sometimes on Special days (weekends, birthdays, etc.). Plan for the 'Special ' days and it's easier to do without the rest of the time. Maria
So frustrating! I'm once again trying to lose weight and it's not easy, but I'm hanging in there!
Everyone deserves the pleasure of a treat occasionally. I guess I see the loss of weight as a healthy choice for many reasons. But never get totally discouraged by the gains.
I don't think its silly to eat healthy at any age, extra weight adds more stress on our joints and organs. But we all like a treat don't we. How about sharing the cake between you instead of a whole one each? Having half a portion of treats instead of a whole one might help and you would still be having the treat. Don't loose heart x
My weight has been slowly climbing after losing 15 lbs in 2023. I'm back up to what I was before I lost it with Noom. Trying to be good is very hard since there is so much salt in restaurant food and so many occasions to celebrate and over eat. I can sympathize with you.
I'm encouraging a very, very slow downward trend in my weight. As long as I finish each month (you read that right,
month, not week) about half a pound (yes, a mere 8oz) lighter than before, I'm happy. Over the course of several years I've slowly lost over a stone, and it has stayed off. I include a small bowl of crisps, a very small amount of chocolate (like 2 minstrels) and a few biscuits or small piece of cake.
The trouble with going out for coffee is the size of the piece of cake! I always share it now.
Food isn't naughty or bad or good in my vocabulary. But I do try and consider if it's worth the calories, and stop eating, even (shock horror!) throwing it in the compost if it is not!
I do weigh myself first thing in the morning in my pjs most days; if it's the same, I'm pleased, if it's crept up I try and be restrained, if it's go down from the dag before I try not to have more cake to celebrate. Smaller plates, smaller portions... it's working for me.
If you are overweight (I am according to bmi) it's worth trying to move towards the right direction. I'll happy if I end up borderline overweight/healthy even if it is on the overweight side.
Good luck, don't let it make yourself miserable or dominate your life; slow and steady...
I do think it beneficial if we can maintain a healthy weight and also eat as healthily as possible.
That's a good idea from Maggie to share a cake or sandwich, I often do this when out with friends. The cakes and treats in cafes are so lovely but I do sometimes think the portion size too big ... just my view/thoughts not everyone would agree.
Enjoy the coming weekend, hard to believe that June will very soon be here.
All the best Jan
I think we should always try to eat right and exercise no matter what our age. It is sure harder to keep the weight off as we get older.
I limit sweets due to history of diabetes in my family. Chocolate is my downfall and I indulge every now and then. My lab work results are good and I walk most days. Staying active is more important to me than weight.
I hear you. I havevto get on my scale daily just to maintain. Even when I think I am eating right I find I gain if I don't get on that scale. It keeps me honest! This time of year i am working so hard that keeping my weight steady or even losing a little is easy, but I really, really have to watch out come fall and winter!
