Autumn Garden

We had our young gardener on Thursday afternoon and she weeded our 'L' shaped flower bed which gave us the push to get the others straight for the winter and the weather was perfect for us, not too hot. We cut down the Buddleia which was huge.. so we're happy with the garden, although I need to sort out the dahlias for their winter sleep! I'm very pleased with my Autumn flowers, Michaelmas Daises, Chrysanthemums, and Rudbeckia..

I want to buy a whole lot of more daffs for our back garden.. so another trip out for garden stuff which we love!

So pleased with my plants I bought the other week, all reduced and now in my garden.

So we're looking very Autumn, which is good although the thought of winter on the way is depressing, I need to buy some new jigsaws to keep happily busy!

At the moment rain has stopped play in the garden!

How is yours?

  1. I enjoyed the photos of your garden. It is Spring here in New Zealand and I’m excitedly watching the peony sprouting to life and the new leaves on my maple trees. Gardening is not my passion but I have a pleasant back yard and after many years living in an upstairs apartment I’m enjoying being able to step outside. Breakfast al fresco is a pleasure - when the weather warms up.

  3. I've got 3 huge buddlieas to cut back - it will take me weeks!

  4. Winter provides a lovely excuse to draw the curtains and be cosy indoors.

  5. Your garden is looking beautiful with all the autumn flowers. My garden is not doing too well at the moment after the heat wave we had earlier this month (went up to 42C for several days). Plus, of course, the fact that we don't get rain in the summer. Although I water the garden three times a week, it's still not quite the same as getting a good soaking rain.

  6. I have to sort the veggie patch. Weeds reign now though tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers are growing still.

  7. Lovely to see your new plants. My annuals are bedraggled and I've gotten rid o f the marigolds already. I did buy my first tulip bulbs and plan to put them in the large patio pots. Hoping they will bloom in spring. I'll have to put chicken wire over the pots to keep the squirrels out. It is still Summer hot here which is not our norm. But I do not look forward to winter. Jigsaws are fun!

  8. Our mums aren't blooming yet, but we do have several other things in bloom. The weather is a cooler and we've had a little rain, so the grass is very happy and needs to be cut 2x/week.

  9. Check out the charity shops for jigsaws. I have had some absolute bargains recently. £2.00 for a brand new (still in cellophane) 1000 piece.

  10. I have a long list of items to do in the garden that will have to wait until after we return from a wedding in Chicago the first weekend of October.

  11. Your flowers are looking very pretty especially those pink daisies. The main colour in my overgrown flowerbeds comes from the Rudbeckias that have self-seeded all over ( I don't mind because they look good and ask for hardly any care).

  12. Your garden is looking lovely and colourful, Chris. Rudbeckias are wonderful to brighten up an Autumn border and the Michaelmas Daisies are pretty too.
I haven't done a jigsaw for ages and with the evenings closing in that sounds like a good idea. I have several that I could do. Thank you for the idea.
