I sowed my seeds at the end of February, so we'd have the tomatoes early in June.. however they were in one of our little plastic green houses outside and were drowned, when we had deluge of rain and we then discovered the plastic had disintegrated and the rain had poured in!
So I sowed more in early April and wow they grew into a good size plant in weeks.. and here they are forming fruits already!
Lesson learnt no point sowing seeds so early. I'm delighted,. And we have had our own carrots, potatoes, lettuce and we've had rhubarb every week.. so satisfying! Beans, cabbages and peas to come.. you don't need an allotment or even a large garden to grow your own, most of ours is grown in bags and pots..what do you grow?

Thank you for the reminder to harvest the lady crop of rhubarb !
ReplyDeleteThis year I'm growing nothing to speak of as building turmoil on the way...
ReplyDeleteHow are you doing with the heat wave?
ReplyDeleteI learnt all about late seed sowing when we lived in Wales. One year I was unintentionally late to sow and it was my best year ever. Everything caught up so quickly and it was so much more satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI've still got rhubarb to pick this week too. My brother in law grew lots of things in containers for years. I've got quite a big garden but I love my allotment for different reasons, the community is great and I get to meet and talk to people too. My early tomatoes failed too, ones sown later are doing much better
ReplyDeleteSo far we have harvested lettuce, spinach, peas, broccoli, and zucchini. Still to come-beets, tomatoes, beans, and cucumbers. Of all of these, I look forward to the tomatoes the most.
ReplyDeleteI planted my tomato seeds way to early too and planted more later and like you the tomatoes are now appearing. I also have some pole beans, radishes, and strawberries. We have a raised garden bed.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your home harvest.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
How wonderful! We cheat and buy plants from the Amish near us.
ReplyDeleteExcellent crops in your garden.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing quite like the thrill of growing a few veg in your own garden and enjoy eating them. Here's hoping you have lots of beautiful red tomatoes soon..
